We have raised and loved "heelers" for 35 years. I am just crazy about these dogs. They are kind and loving and very loyal to their person and family.
They are protective and after they learn their boundries they are good with your stock. They can be hardheaded but they are VERY smart. Animal Planet recently ranked them among the top 5 smartest breeds of dogs. They are right up there with Border Collies and Australian Shepherds. We've had Aussies and loved them also. Here in Texas, there are so many people who raise heelers that they are a fairly common sight. And like everything else, non-selective breeding produces some very good looking dogs and some very common dogs. Heelers raised in Texas, unless they are AKC registered dogs tend to have docked tails. Most heelers have the stub tail here. It helps in heavy cactus. We want to breed handsome, goodlooking, healthy dogs people can love and enjoy and use for help.
